Recently, I see most startups use the domain name .IO to represent their product/business. Any particular reasons or is it just that they couldn't acquire .COM domain name which is one of the oldest TLD?

io is more common on tech projects and products but is getting very popular on other genres of companies too

I personally prefer .COM over .IO but if .COM is busy, then you can consider the following general extensions: .IO, .NET, .CO, and .ORG
